Lift Car & Landing Door Wrap Glasgow

Project Overview

As part of a wider reception area refurbishment in Glasgow, we were appointed to upgrade the appearance of three passenger lifts, including both the lift cars and landing doors. The existing stainless steel doors were structurally sound but had deteriorated visually over time.

Years of daily use, routine cleaning, and maintenance had left the doors marked with scratches, swirl marks, and surface wear. In several locations, misalignment during opening and closing had caused repeated contact, resulting in deeper damage that could not be removed through polishing alone.

The Challenge

While replacement doors were an option, doing so would have involved significant cost and disruption. New lift doors would have required removal and disposal, additional lift engineering works, rebalancing, and full recertification — all adding time and expense to the refurbishment programme.

The client wanted a solution that would modernise the appearance of the lifts while avoiding unnecessary downtime and costs.

Our Approach

Working alongside the project team, we proposed architectural vinyl wrapping as a high quality, cost effective alternative to replacement. Prior to installation, a lift engineer was appointed to realign the doors, ensuring smooth operation and eliminating the risk of further contact or damage once wrapped.

With the doors correctly aligned, we prepared the stainless steel surfaces and wrapped both the lift cars and landing doors in 3M DI-NOC matte black architectural vinyl. This finish was chosen to complement the refurbished reception area, delivering a sleek, modern aesthetic while providing a durable protective layer over the existing metal.

All work was carried out in situ, allowing the lifts to remain operational with minimal disruption to building users.

The Result

The completed installation transformed the appearance of all three lifts, creating a clean, contemporary finish that tied seamlessly into the wider reception refurbishment. The matte black DI-NOC film delivered a uniform, high-end look while concealing years of wear and damage.

By realigning and wrapping the existing doors rather than replacing them, the client saved thousands of pounds in material, engineering, and certification costs, all while achieving a result that looked brand new.
