Immersive Feature Wall Wrap – Motherwell Library
Project Overview
We were commissioned to install a bespoke vinyl wrap to a feature wall within Motherwell Library, forming the external surface of an interactive immersive room. The space was designed to support sensory learning and engagement, and the brief called for a finish that reflected both the heritage of the building and its modern educational purpose..-
The design concept centred around a digitally printed graphic showcasing historical elements of the library, including archive photographs and original architectural drawings, creating a visual narrative that connects past and present.
The Challenge
As the immersive room was a high-profile, public facing installation, it was essential that the vinyl performed reliably over time while delivering a crisp, high quality visual finish. Given the nature of the substrate and the importance of longevity in a public environment, surface suitability and adhesion were critical considerations from the outset.
Our Approach
Before proceeding, we carried out a peel test to confirm the surface was suitable for vinyl application and to determine the correct preparation method. Once approved, we selected a premium architectural-grade vinyl capable of accepting high resolution digital print while maintaining durability in a public space.
Prior to installation, the wall was primed to stabilise the substrate and ensure consistent adhesion across the entire surface. The digitally printed vinyl was then installed with precision, ensuring accurate alignment of the artwork and a smooth, seamless finish.
The Result
The completed feature wall successfully bridges the library’s historical significance with its forward-thinking approach to education and learning. The printed wrap adds depth, storytelling, and visual impact to the immersive room, enhancing the overall user experience while standing up to the demands of a busy public environment.
This project is a great example of how architectural wrapping can be used not only as a refurbishment solution, but as a creative storytelling tool within cultural and educational spaces.
